Our Story

On Halstead Street in 1919, the Pentecostal Church of God was birthed as a missional movement. Committing itself to “aggressive evangelism” and “taking the Gospel to those outside Pentecost,” the Pentecostal Church of God has established a legacy concurrent with the mission of our Lord and Savior—to advance the Gospel to every nation and tongue across the globe.

In celebration of this rich heritage, authors Aaron M. Wilson and John D. Mallinak have compiled an honest assessment that describes the birth of a burgeoning movement and how it navigated the healthy tension between organizing itself and maintaining its missional spontaneity. Expanded to include highlights of the last 30 years, this Centennial Edition of Our Story shares the full 100-year history of the Pentecostal Church of God.

Now a new story is emerging in this divinely orchestrated moment, and like it or not, the pen has found its way into your hand. So here’s the all-important question: What story will you write? A second-century starts now, and it starts with you.

The Pentecostal Church of God Chaplaincy: the Noteworthy, the Now, and the Next

by M. David Reynolds

One minute, one event, or one conversation can dramatically alter the direction your life is headed. I received that life altering conversation in a phone call from Chaplain George Linzey in July 2020. He was so very weak. I could hardly hear him as he whispered, “David, I need you to take the Chaplain Department and move it forward.” I knew Chaplain Linzey had been sick, so I protested saying, “Oh, George, do not say that; just focus on your health. I’ll help you any way I can.” He replied, “I have finished my course. You need to take over now. I’ll contact Bishop Ming [the presiding General Bishop] and make him aware of our conversation.” Little did I know within a month, Chaplain George Linzey would be “promoted to glory.”

What transpired next was an enormous policy shift and a total surprise to me.
